Teen Pregnancy Research Development.

As I began my research on the growing issue in Memphis, Tennessee, my topic slowly, but began to change. I’d mention before that infant mortality was also an issue when it came to teen pregnancy, yet I did not realize how big of an issue it really was. The majority of teen pregnancies occur in the poorest zip codes of Memphis, which makes it a struggle for the baby to make it to its’ first birthday. Slowly, but surely, my topic changed from Are teen moms ignorant to the facts about sex and becoming teen mothers, to Teen pregnancy and infant mortality rates in poverty.
I found a great DVD documentary that had a lot of good information on the subject that was filmed right here in Memphis, Beyond Babyland. I heard about it through a co-worker and thought I should watch it before I decided to start other research on teen pregnancy. After watching the documentary, I was in tears over how teen pregnancy occurred in poverty, and how it was almost a never ending cycle.
I never realized how hard it was to get through the pregnancy and also how hard it was for the infant to make it to its’ first birthday. I already knew that teen pregnancy was a growing issue throughout all classes (lower class, middle class, and high class), but never did  I realize how bad of a problem it was in poverty. The assumptions that people make about them are not always right, and most teens in poverty simply just do not know any better.
I was so touched by that documentary, that I felt compelled to tell their (teens in poverty) side of the story.

Letter from Birmingham Jail.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham Jail was a very well written letter. He expressed and made a very vialed argument when he was writing it. Dr. King did not just state his point of view, he stated views from all sides. The letter had a great impact on me reading it because not because it was an amazing article, but his word choices were incredible. He knew exactly what to say and how to say it. He used the correct analogies to make his audience feel the exact emotion he wanted them to feel.

Dr. King made a great argument when writing this letter; his words on the God given, natural rights where very powerful. For every argumentative and evaluated statement he made, he gave an explanation, which made everything he said extremely creditable. He also made an argument about just and unjust laws. He used other people’s words to explain what he thought the definition was with was an incredibly smart thing to do. He created an argument that no one could argue with.

Research Paper Topic.

The topic I chose to write my research paper on is teen pregnancy and its effects. I believe this is important because this not a national issue, but also a local issue within the city. Teens are acting very irresponsibly, and I believe they are ignorant the subject and need to learn about pregnancy before they jump into a situation that they may not be able to work out the way they think they can.

As I’d mentioned before, most teens are ignorant to the subject of teen pregnancy (even though most might beg to differ), and don’t realize that they are actually creating another life until it’s too late; by the time they realize it, reality has already hit them.

There are many downsides to teen pregnancy that most people fail to realize. The infant mortality rate is at an all-time high in result of the number of teen pregnancies in today’s time. Also, there are many STDs going around that some of the teens that get pregnant can possibly pass it to their infant during the birth if not addressed; I know for a fact most people don’t think about that when considering teen pregnancy.

There are many girls that I graduated with that are apart of the teen pregnancy static, and I feel like the situation can be improved if it’s taught about more. I feel very strongly about this situation, not necessarily for the sake of the teen mothers and fathers, but for the sake of the children that they are carelessly making.

Introduction.

Before I start to blog, I think you should learn a little bit about who I am. I am a college student at the University of Memphis. I am also a Licensed Cosmetologist, which is my first love and my passion in life. A few things I love to do include doing hair (of course), helping people, listening to music, hanging out with friends, just having a great time. Basically you can just say I’m your average college student!

I am apart of many different communities; my college community, my work community, my family community, my social community, and my city community just to know a few. Some of my communities are very different, yet can be very similar. My college, work, city, and social community are different than my family community, possibly because I keep them separate. They are different because I am a busy body, but when I’m with my family I can just relax. My work, college, and social communities all intertwine together, which makes them so similar. The reason why they are so similar is because they pretty much consist of the same people.
